The YMS interact club has been working on a project to help raise money for polio. Polio is a horrific disease that affects kids usually under the age of five, but it can affect anyone. Of course, nobody in America has polio because we can get a shot to prevent it, but in other countries, they might not be able to afford it. The vaccine costs 50 cents, but the poorer countries might not be able to afford that, which means they are at risk of polio. After the child gets the vaccine, they get their pinkie dipped in purple ink, so the doctors know who has been vaccinated; then the child won’t get vaccinated again. With the help of the YMS students, the Interact Club has set up a plan to help raise money for poorer countries. On May 17th and May 18th, during the lunch periods of school, the YMS Interact club asked students from YM to bring in just a minimum of 50 cents to help a child get the vaccine. Together we were able to give money for enough of 1,421 vaccinations. Thank you so much for your help!
