Boxed Water
Molly Kenealy
Hello students of YMS, I am going to tell you about a petition I am making to get boxed water in our school instead of plastic water bottles. A little bit ago, my class and I were doing a project on the carbon footprint. We used a website to see how big our carbon footprint was. Let’s just say that it wasn’t little. I decided to try to cut down on one major problem. Plastic. Did you know that plastic bottles can take 450 years to break down? Cardboard, on the other hand takes only 2 months to decompose! If our school sold Boxed Water instead of plastic water bottles, YMS could make an big impact on the environment.
To start out, as it even says on the carton of water, boxed water is better! My first reason about that is it is better for the environment. This is true because first of all, the box is 100% recyclable, seeing as it is made of cardboard. Additionally, although the materials are made of paper, and you have to cut down trees to get that, The Boxed Water company is very careful to replant a tree every time they cut one down.
Secondly, Boxed Water is better because it is completely pure. The boxed water company goes through an 8 step water purification process just for our benefit. To add on to that, not only is their water pure, their pH (pH is a measure of hydrogen ion concentration; a measure of the acidity of a solution.) is very close to neutral, and they believe that offers the best hydration for your body.
Lastly, Boxed Water is better because they are very efficient when it comes to shipping. The Boxed Water company states, “Our boxes are shipped flat to our local filling stations. By shipping flat boxes to the source, we use one truck for every 26 trucks that many plastic bottle companies use. Reducing our carbon footprint.” to add on to what the Boxed Water company says, using less trucks to ship makes less pollution.
Now as you can see, Boxed Water is much better for the school than the plastic bottles we have, here at YMS. Boxed Water is good for the environment, better for you, and helps stop pollution. Boxed Waters statement is true. Boxed Water is better.
